So we all read and heard about Yahoo ending the working from home program.
I never really had that option, so it doesnt really bother me. However, since taking on this new job since October, my job has given me the option to work from home, from time to time. So with the latest news, I guess I do have somewhat of an opinion of this.
I can see both sides. End WFH and get all your employees together to fix the company issues. End WFH and you'll drive off your true talent and you'll also unload the not-so talented ones. So it kind of hurts the company more in the long run. But hey, I'm not a manager or a business guy, what do I know.
Some people do work better from home because of their job function. So it all depends on the job and what all entails.
With Yahoo's move with ending WFH, Best Buy hsa joined this move as well.
So has there's been talk at your company if you have the option of working from home?
There hasn't been any talk at my place, so i think we're safe....unless that one idiot ruins it all for everyone.

No talk to this point of ending WFH. Within my company it's at the sole discretion of the organizations VP. I know directly that my VP is not a fan, in fact within my org, my team is the only one with the option. My team currently enjoys the benefit of 2 days a week at home; one week a month we take 3 days.
Given the nature of what my team and I do; I do not see how not having WFH would be feasible. We're often online working until 10-12 at night. It's a product of receiving and sending information to and from all parts of the globe. We work on average 50-55 hours a week and in many cases at quarter end, we're pushing 70+. Physically, I do not see that type of work load being possible in the confines of an office.
It is a really nice perk and I've been recruited by other companies who do not offer WFH. In all cases, I turned down a higher salary to stay at BMC and keep the WFH. If it went away, I would certainly leave.
