So last night Sony had their event for the PS4. Some games look pretty amazing like Kill Zone. When they were demoing it, I thought it was a cut scene, until Eric told me it was actual game play. That's how good it looked. Here are the hardware specs of the PS4: *8-core X86 AMD "Jaguar" CPU *1.84 Teraflop AMD Radeon GPU *8GB RAM The controller looks somewhat like the Xbox controller, but with the analog sticks in the same traditional positions. What they didnt do is show off the motion part of the new controller. When they did a demo of some game that requires Move, they used the old wands to demo the game. That was pretty weak. The social aspect is pretty nice, but I guess I'm still a gaming purist and just want gaming features only. Either way, some of the social features are pretty nice. There was two games I was interested in and they were Destiny and Kill Zone, everything else was just puzzle games and how much power do you really need for a puzzle game. There was two disappointments, no design of the console was shown and no price. I think that was a big fail on Sony's part. Here's an article from CNET that contains some pictures from the event, which is not much.: tinyurl.com/b2xthdj

I was also highly disappointed they did not show off the console or provide pricing. I suspect they are still working on the final box design and pricing.
The controller looked nice and I was pleased it wasn't the boomerang looking thing that has been rumored for awhile. Curious how/what role the little touch pad will play in gaming; if any at all.
Since it wasn't addressed, I think it is highly likely used games will not be playable. Xbox also seems to be shutting this market down. I actually think it's better than 50/50 that the PS4 will not be a disk loading system. It will be 100% digital downloads. I say that because they made mention of how it will interact with other peripherals, such as Sony BR players. Why would it need to interact with a BR player, if it has one built in?
All in all, I saw enough to sale me on buying one. The recording/instant sharing and ability to watch a friend play and even take over for them? That's just insane.
If available, I would preorder one today.

The ps4 seems interesting, im a little apprehensive about the "cloud" based gaming (aka. streaming games). I personally like to own physical copies of my games.. and if you dont have an internet connection i assume you cant play?

Same here for owning. Perhaps it's an old way of thinking and we just have to get used to the idea of streaming.
I am going to assume you must have an internet connection to play. Similar to the rumors on the new xbox will require an always on connection.
I also suspect, it will require a subscription to PlayStation Plus or some new service.

I'm thinking the new Xbox is going to the same path as Sony with the automatic console updates when having the Plus service. Since having the Plus service, I haven't kicked off one update manually. So having "always on connection" would be needed so the updates can happen on their own.

Ugh i hate pay to play... $25 doesnt break the bank. i know some people dont like to admit it, but Live has a much better party system than the PS3. To keep that going as it is, I'd pay the $25 every year. party system meaning, if you dont know, you can group up in chat party and everyone doesnt have to be in the same game. Like for us, this would work great since we usually have more than 4 players playing BF3 and on different squads. No matter if we get kicked or banned from a match, we're still in the chat party. That itself is worth the yearly fee. That's something that Sony needs to sort out in the PS4.
