NFL Ticket on PS3

Wanted everyone to know that the NFL Ticket is coming to the PS3. It debuted last year and it was a great service. If you currently have DirectTV service, you probably get this for free or pay a little extra for it.

For PS3 uses, the cost is $300. They usually break the costs between four months. So that's $75/month for four months.

Now some of you may say, WHOA! $300! If you really break it down and do the math, it's way much cheaper than being locked in a two-year contract with DirectTV.

For example, I dont have any cable or satellite service. I only have over-the-air channels. So to me, the $300 costs is great for me.

How is this cheaper? Let's do the math.

Let's say that you sign up with DirectTV and the minimum years is a two-year contract. This is pretty typical. So they offer you free NFL Ticket, right. This may sound great because you see the word FREE. Now let's say for just basic channels, the monthly cost is $50. This does not include taxes and equipment lease costs. So for 24 months at $50, you're paying at total of $1200. Again, this is before taxes and lease costs.

Now, here I am, paying $300 for NFL Ticket only. Done. No on going monthly costs. No lease equipment cost. No locked in contracts. I pay the $300 rate and I'm DONE.

Who's cheaper? I think paying the $300 for only the NFL Ticket is. The numbers dont lie.

For someone like me that does not care for cable or satellite channels, the NFL Ticket for the PS3 is a great deal to me and I get to see my team since I'm not in my home town.

If you live in town, then both are not a great deal since you can see your local team on the local channels.

Actually signed up with directtv. Unlike you people living in the dark ages, I like having all programming options available to me. Somewhat looking forward to the NFL ticket. If I'm not at the game, I'm going to be watching the Texans. It does, open the options when they are in prime time and the late afternoon game options are better.

I do know the fine print says "NFL Blackout Rules Apply." Typically, those rules are:
1. If game is not sold out 24-48 hrs prior to kick-off, game will not be shown in local market.
2. If local market team is playing at home, no game can be shown opposite.

#2 being the key. I don't know if this one applies on Direct TV. That would seem to defeat most of the purpose of having the Ticket. I can understand #1 being applied.

For a while, we did have satellite and it was great having all those channels. But for some people like myself, the cost of all those channels to only view maybe 5 at the most, is a waste of money. Maybe not for you, but for me, yes it is. Y

Yeah it's great to have all those options, but money-wise, it's a waste.

That's why we cut the cord two years ago and glad we did. We only have NetFlix and the downloads I do from torrent sites, is enough entertainment for us. If I want to see a sports game, I head out to Buffalo Wild Wings and ask them to change the channel. Even that route, the cost of food and beer comes out cheaper than a DirectTV monthly charge

As for the black out dates, this only happens if the Texans games are televised locally. For me up here in Dallas, the most will be four games that are televised here. The other 12 games will be viewed on the PS3.

If the game is viewed locally on local channels, then yes, the game on the NFL Ticket is blacked out. Other than that, all games are viewable.

Like I said, I had it last year and it was great. Also, nothing wonrg with being in the dark ages. My wallet is much happier and can do better things with that same money.

Someone with DirectTV already, then yes of course, this is not a deal because you're getting it for free with your service. but like I said, you're stuck with that monthly charge for two years.

you're in the Dallas area, so what you're saying is even when the Cowboys and Texans both play at noon, with the Ticket you could still watch the Texans?

I wont be able to because a CB/TX game would be televised on CBS here.

And let's say that's the only game I would be able to see on the local over-the-air channel. What about the other 15 Texans' games? That's when the NFLT takes place.

This applies for any person from any city. Say DMAX lived in Houston. How many Seahawk games would Houston televise? Probably none. Great, he gets to see all the Texans games, but he's not a fan. He wants to see Seattle games. A service like NFLT would be perfect for him since he owns a PS3 and is not required to get costly satellite service for two years.

And let's say by miracle Houston does televise one Seattle game. Great, DMAX gets to watch it on CBS, but not on the NFLT because it's being televised locally in Houston.

So what about the other fifteen games? The other fifteen Seattle games, he gets to watch them on the NFLT.

Told a friend of mine about this deal. he like you does not have cable and is a huge Redskins fan. He went out today and purchased a PS3 for the sole purpose of getting the sunday ticket.

You know of any way to record the games on PS3?

I would say use a PVR, but it only records one hour at a time. But since you going to stop between commercials, that wont matter.

Not sure that would work for him since I expect he would plan to be away while the Skins games are on.

I have direct tv now but did not sign up for the NFL package, however when I move to our house in the Phoenix area I will be faced with the scenario Tekno alluded to so I will probably sign up for NFL ticket. Not a Cardinal fan.
